Here's a little video on how to use a tri-stone sharpener to sharpen a knife blade that's been pretty badly torn up.
A few notes. Just to let everyone know, it seems that most of the damage to the knife is actually the drawer in which my wife kept it and putting it through the dishwasher. Note to everyone: Keep your knives in a knife block if you want them to stay sharp longer, and don't use a dishwasher as your primary method of washing chef knives. Steak knives, fine, but ones that you want to keep a good blade on are best washed by hand.
Be careful when you sharpen, wash or use knives. They are sharp and can be dangerous even in trained hands.
